Visas and Work Permits in Cambodia

Whether it is to visit, work, start a business, or study, a visa issued by the Cambodian authorities is required for almost all foreign nationalities seeking to enter the Kingdom.

The process to obtain a visa is straightforward and the list of documents required is relatively small compared to many countries. Visas in Cambodia are classified according to the intended activities of the holder.

What are the different types of visa available in Cambodia?

T-Class Visa (Tourist Visa)

The T visa applies to tourists looking to visit Cambodia. The T visa costs USD 30 and is valid for 30 days. It can be renewed one time.

E-Class Visa (Ordinary Visa)

The E-Class visa applies to those who are staying in Cambodia for an extended period of time. E-Class visas comprise several subcategories depending on your intended activities within the country. E-Class visas are first valid for 30 days, and can be renewed endlessly for periods of one month, three months, six months or one year.

Please note, that only holders of the six-month and one-year visas are permitted multiple entries into Cambodia.

EB Visa (business visa)

The EB visa is the most common business visa granted in Cambodia. It is granted to anyone who has a job and works in Cambodia as one of the following:

  • an employee,
  • a business owner,
  • an intern,
  • a freelancer,
  • or a foreigner’s spouse/ child.

However, the EB does not always grant the holder the right to work in Cambodia (work permits and foreign employment cards must also be obtained to do so).

EG Visa (general visa)

The EG visa applies to foreign nationals who enter Cambodia to seek employment. This visa can be valid for periods of one, three or six months.

ER Visa (retirement visa)

The ER visa is issued to those looking to retire in Cambodia. It applies to foreign nationals over the age of 55 who have proof of retirement in their home country.

Applicants must also be able to prove that they can financially sustain themselves without working in Cambodia.

ES Visa (student visa)

The ES visa is issued to students enrolled in school in Cambodia. This visa can be extended indefinitely as long as holders provide a certificate of enrollment from the school and that they can financially support themselves.

A full list of the visas our team of visa experts can help you obtain can be found here.

Work Permit

On top of an EB visa, a work permit is necessary for foreign nationals working in Cambodia. The following criteria must be met to obtain a work permit:

  • Have a job offer from an employer
  • Be fit for the relevant job
  • Have a valid residency permit
  • Have a passport with six months validity
  • Not have any communicable diseases

The following supporting documents must be provided by the employee:

  • Name, gender, date of birth and height
  • Copy of passport
  • Copy of E-visa
  • Current residential address
  • Level of education
  • Recent photograph
  • Health certificate
  • Job description

A work permit is valid from January 1st until December 31st of each year. It must be renewed every year between January 1st and March 31st. Penalties apply for renewals processed after April 1st.

K-CLASS VISA (Khmer visa)

A K visa is only granted to Cambodian descendants who enter the country on a foreign passport. Documents that prove that the parents are Cambodian citizens are required (birth certificate, Cambodian ID, marriage certificate). This visa is free and can be extended indefinitely.

B-CLASS VISA (Official visa)

Official visas are granted to foreign employees working and representing international organisations such as the United Nations, World Health Organisation, or UNICEF. A government’s invitation is required to obtain a B-class visa.

C-CLASS VISA (Courtesy visa)

A courtesy visa is issued to employees of international NGOs that have a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Where can I obtain my visa?

Cambodian visas can be obtained online, upon arrival, or through an embassy. The e-visa portal only applies to T-class and E-class visas. However, the processing of online visa applications has been suspended due to Covid-19.
