HSBC Buys Virtual Real Estate in The Sandbox
One of the worlds largest banks, HSBC has revealed its plan to purchase a plot of LAND or virtual real estate in The Sandbox Metaverse. HSBC has partnered with The Sandbox as a way to engage with sports, esports and gaming fans around the world. HSBC plans to do this by building various esports and gaming activities for enthusiasts to enjoy.
Paris Hilton announces her partnership with The Sandbox during a special DJ set at this year’s SXSW festival
Paris Hilton performed a special DJ set at the South By Southwest culture and technology festival in Austin this week. Paris Hilton used the event as a way to announce her new partnership with The Sandbox. As part of the partnership, Paris Hilton will receive her own avatar and a dedicated space within The Sandbox. This space will feature game-like experiences themed around her love of fashion, music and animals.
American Express trademark filings suggest they may be about to enter Web 3.0
American Express has filed trademark applications relating to its logos and items including the Centurion black card and “Shop Small” program. Spectators believe that American Express is planning to start offering virtual payments and electronic business transactions for digital media and non-fungible tokens (NFT).
NFTs are coming to Instagram sooner rather than later
During an appearance at SXSW, Meta (Facebook) CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that they plan to add NFTs into Instagram in the “near term.” There was little information provided about how they plan to integrate NFTs onto the platform but it was suggested that users would be able to mint NFTs within Instagram.
Rihanna submits Trademark applications to offer products in the Metaverse
Global superstar, Rihanna and her company Fenty, has submitted a batch of trademark applications in order to offer cosmetics and products in the Metaverse. No details have been provided as to which Metaverse Rihanna plans to offer their products yet.
LeBron James is looking to enter the Metaverse
Basketball legend, LeBron James, has filed several trademark applications in relation to the Metaverse. The filings suggest that LeBron James plans to offer: Virtual footwear & clothing and create virtual basketball courts as part of a new virtual experience in the Metaverse.
Former Disney CEO, Bob Iger looks to enter Web 3.0
Former Disney CEO, Bob Iger has joined the Board of Directors of the 3D avatar start-up, Genies. Genies’ is a mobile app which allows users to create their own custom digital avatars. At the moment, these avatars are used for social media profiles, but Genies plans to branch off and create avatars which can be used in the metaverse.
