The notarization of a document establishes a guarantee relating to the authenticity of the document, or to the act of the signatories to the instrument.

Notarization and legalisation involves a lawyer executing the following functions:

  1. Verifying the authenticity of signatures on a document
  2. Certifying the identity of parties to an agreement
  3. Administration of oaths and affirmations
  4. Attestation and certification of the validity and authenticity of documents
  5. Certify documents such as government-issued legal documents
  6. Be witness to the signing of parties to a document.

Are there Notary Publics in Thailand?

There are no Notary Publics in Thailand, however lawyers have been granted the authority to function as Notarial Services Attorney in their place.The Lawyers Council of Thailand are responsible for regulating the practice of notarial services in Thailand. Thai lawyers are required to undergo and pass a professional training course before being registered as a Notarial Services Attorney.

Is Notarization and legalisation 100% guaranteed in Thailand?

Thailand is not a signatory to the Hague Convention on Legalization of Foreign Public Documents, therefore, parties may need to have the notarized document authenticated or legalized further at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or at the Embassy of the country to which the document is to be presented (if its a Thai document being used abroad).
