What will happen if I overstay my visa in Thailand?
People who overstay their visa are subject to a monetary fine and a ban. The final punishment varies on the length of an overstay e.g. under 90 days is a fine of 500 THB per day, where over 90 days is a fine of 500 THB per day (Max 25,000 THB) and a ban from entering Thailand. Anyone who overstays their visa in Thailand will also receive an overstay stamp in their passport which could affect future entries to the country.
If you overstay your visa by more than 50 days you will not be able to extend your visa and will be banned from entering Thailand. A fine of 25,000 THB will also be issued.
What happens if you use a visa for the wrong purpose?
If you use your visa for the wrong purpose the holder is at risk of receiving a fine and banned from entering Thailand for 5 years. Misuse of a visa includes working on a tourist visa, retirement visa or education visa. Other examples include living in Thailand on an Education or Volunteer visa and not studying or undertaking volunteer activities as required.
